ヒマラヤの朝
ヒマラヤの茶畑で感じた雄大な時間。
何万年も前からそこに存在していた圧倒的に大きな存在である自然を前に、自分たちの小ささや今存在していることの奇跡に驚き感謝する。都市の生活の中で想いを馳せることがほとんどなかった大きな時間の存在を意識した。

凍えるように寒いヒマラヤの麓の町での朝、毎日そこに暮らす住民たちと一杯のチヤ(お茶)を共に飲む。
静けさの中でかすかに聞こえる朝の音に心地よく耳を傾けていると、朝日が次第に山を照らし始め、チヤと共に私たちの体と心を温めてくれた。
夜明けから朝に移り、誰の顔にも少しほっとした安心感と笑顔が浮かび始める。
朝がきた。
建物を出て外にでると、視界に眩しいヒマラヤの山々が飛び込んできた。太陽に照らされ輝く茶畑。光の層が緑の上でキラキラと踊っているように見える。ここには圧倒的な自然が目の前にあるので、余計なことは考えることができない。少し茫然とする。
茶畑のある集落へたどり着くまでの道のりは決して簡単なものではなかったし、時折思い出したように戻ってくる高山病特有の頭痛が、私達がずっと下から登ってきたことを思い出せた。それでも今私はここにいるということは、この雄大な自然が私たちを受け入れてくれたということのようだ。
紅茶の芳しい香り。香ばしさとほんのりとした甘さ。なにものにも変えがたい至福の時間。
私たちはこの大きな時間の中の一部なのだ。ここでの時間はぐっと引き延ばされたかのように大きく、どこか心地いい。この感覚を下へ降りても私は忘れないでいたいし、伝えたい。時空、遺産、継承、温もり。
人々は、ただ毎日を生きていた。

Morning in the Himalayas
In the tea fields of the Himalayas.
Amid the tea fields of the Himalayas, I felt the presence of time itself, vast and unyielding. Standing before nature's immense and timeless majesty of nature, I was humbled by our own smallness, awestruck by the miracle of simply existing. Here, I became acutely aware of a grand expanse of time, a force rarely contemplated in the hurried rhythms of city life.
On a frigid morning in a small town at the foot of the Himalayas, I shared a cup of “Chiya(Tea)” with the locals who live there. As the faint sounds of dawn stirred the silence, the first light began to touch the mountains, warming our bodies and souls alongside the tea. With the transition from night to morning, a quiet relief and gentle smiles began to soften the faces around me.
The morning had come.
Stepping outside, I was greeted by the dazzling sight of the Himalayas, bathed in sunlight. The tea fields below shimmered, their green expanse dancing with layers of light. In the face of such overwhelming nature, my thoughts quieted, leaving me in a state of awe. The journey to reach this tea-laden village had not been easy, with the persistent headaches of altitude sickness reminding me of the climb from the lowlands. Yet, being here now, I felt as though this vast wilderness had accepted me.
The fragrant aroma of tea—rich, toasty, with a hint of sweetness—enveloped me in a blissful moment beyond compare. Here, within the embrace of this great expanse of time, I felt a profound connection. Time itself seemed to stretch and swell, offering a comfort that I wished to carry with me, to share with others. Space, heritage, legacy, warmth.
The people just live each day.

西と東の交差点/Cross Point
現在のネパールの首都であるカトマンズのある盆地一帯を示すカトマンズバーレー(カトマンズ渓谷)は、周囲の山から川が流れ込み、水が豊富で耕作に適した肥沃な大地のため、古くから街として栄え、様々な宗教文化が行き交い栄えた土地だ。紀元前7Cごろには、すでに統治国家が誕生していたと考えられている。訪れたことのある者にどこか懐かしさ、タイムスリップしてしまったような感覚を与えるカトマンズの街並み。それは、何千年も前からそこを往来してきた文化、歴史、人々の気配がそう感じさせるのかもしれない。交差する街、Cross
Point。西や東の文化が行き交う交差点に位置したこの町が見てきたドラマティックな時間の流れに、思わず想いを馳せてしまう、そんな風景が広がっていた。

Cross-point of East and West
The Kathmandu Valley, where Nepal’s capital now lies, is a fertile basin nourished by rivers flowing down
from the surrounding mountains. Rich in water and perfect for cultivation, it has long been a thriving hub
of urban life, where diverse religious and cultural currents have intermingled and flourished. It is
believed that as early as the 7th century BCE, a state was already being governed here. To those who visit,
the streets of Kathmandu offer a sense of nostalgia, as if stepping into a time long past. Perhaps this
feeling is evoked by the lingering presence of cultures, histories, and peoples who have traversed these
streets for millennia. A crossroad city, “Cross-point”. One cannot help but ponder the dramatic passage of
time witnessed by this town, situated at the intersection of East and West.

お茶が結ぶ「場」Chiyaba
古今東西、地域を問わず、お茶は人々の憩いの場にかかせない飲み物だった。人が集まり、お茶を飲みながらたわいのない話をする。太古の昔から、そんな場所が新しい文化を生んできたのかもしれない。
家族や仕事の話、芸術や音楽、政治など様々な事柄について、心置きなくお茶を飲みながら話をする場所。そんな人々が止まっては去っていくクロスポイントとなるような、お茶を通した「場」作りをしたい。東京の生活の中でも、あのゆったりとした時間の流れを味わったり、人々の交流する場をつくりたい。
そうして、CHIYA-BAが誕生しました。
2022年3月5日、東京
家族や仕事の話、芸術や音楽、政治など様々な事柄について、心置きなくお茶を飲みながら話をする場所。そんな人々が止まっては去っていくクロスポイントとなるような、お茶を通した「場」作りをしたい。東京の生活の中でも、あのゆったりとした時間の流れを味わったり、人々の交流する場をつくりたい。
そうして、CHIYA-BAが誕生しました。

Chiyaba: A place where tea brings people together
Across time and cultures, tea has been an essential part of community life, a drink that brings people
together. In gathering places, people drink tea, engage in light-hearted conversations, and create
connections. Since ancient times, such places may have given birth to new cultures.
A place where family, work, art, music, politics, and other topics can be discussed freely over a cup of tea—a “cross-point” where people pause and move on, connected through the simple act of sharing tea. I wanted to create such a space, even within the bustling life of Tokyo, where the leisurely flow of time and human interaction could be savored. And so, Chiyaba was born.
March 5, 2022, Tokyo
A place where family, work, art, music, politics, and other topics can be discussed freely over a cup of tea—a “cross-point” where people pause and move on, connected through the simple act of sharing tea. I wanted to create such a space, even within the bustling life of Tokyo, where the leisurely flow of time and human interaction could be savored. And so, Chiyaba was born.
